Developing artefacts from recycled plastic sheets to popularize circularity among youth.
This project is part of the "Scale UpCycle" initiative, a collaboration between The Hague University of Applied Sciences and Stichting Stunt. Stunt provides job opportunities for people reintegrating into the workforce, including a workshop that transforms plastic waste into high-quality sheets.
The assignment was to conceptualize and develop artefacts using these 10mm recycled HDPE sheets. The core goal was to enhance a product configurator that enables kids to design their own toys or appliances effortlessly, thereby popularizing the concept of plastic recycling through active participation.
A key requirement was inclusivity. We conducted focus group workshops with our targetgroup to understand how children interact with design tools. The challenge was to create a system that fits the constraints of Stunt's CNC capabilities while giving users enough creative freedom to feel ownership over their creations.
The project demonstrated that when given the right tools, "non-designers" can create highly functional and creative spatial layouts. The STUNT prototype was successfully tested with 15 users, resulting in 5 distinct park designs that were deemed viable for construction.
"Ascend your space with seamless storage solutions, uniting strength and tranquility through modular design."
80.2% of "fast furniture" ends up in landfills. This disposable culture is driven by low-quality materials and inseparable components that make recycling impossible.
VESTIGE bridges the gap between affordable fast furniture and premium eco-design. It is a modular system designed for longevity, repairability, and total disassembly, targeting a generation that values sustainability but lacks budget-friendly options.
Every component can be separated, repaired, or recycled.
Exposed joinery and natural finishes celebrate the sustainable materials.
As users move or their needs change, Vestige adapts with them.
Redefining urban living through shared spaces, sustainable materials, and a focus on community interaction.
The CPC Housing project explores the balance between privacy and community. In an era where urban isolation is rising, this design proposes a "Collective Private Commission" model where residents actively shape their living environment.
By utilizing large, open-plan communal areas like the central kitchen and living spaces, the building encourages spontaneous interaction while maintaining high-quality private quarters. The use of natural light and warm materials creates an inviting atmosphere that feels both modern and homey.
